Seeing that the sled show is over and the snow is creeping down the hills it’s probably time for a long overdue update on what’s going on out here.
We’re extremely grateful for all the support shown to us in helping get the Renshaw trail reopened. As for the bridge, we’ve been talking with the company that owns it and it’s just going thru the approval process at the moment. The community relations department has agreed to the sale and now it’s in the hands of management and the finance department. Hopefully we’ll hear more soon. Even if we get the bridge it won’t be installed this winter as there’s a bunch of administrative steps that need completion before hand. Regardless, I guess it needs to be clarified that the Renshaw riding area isn’t closed, it’s just the trail access that is the issue. If you know the old trail up thru Chalco creek then getting into the Renshaw won’t be an issue for you.
Thanks to a generous donation from Titan Flooring and Interior Design Ltd in Edmonton, we’ve purchased and installed a warm up shelter for Tommy Creek to make things a bit better this season. It’s located at the 7km junction, GPS coordinates are on the website, sledmcbride.ca
I’m told Avalanche Canada has completed the ATES mapping for Tommy and with any luck we should have some maps soon. There won’t be any logging up Tommy this winter so that should ease the confusion that we all suffered from early last season up there. The parking plan is looking like we will plow the road to 19km and groom up from there. This could change as the winter progresses depending on snowfall.
Some may have heard that our grooming contractor has bowed out. Rest assured we are working on a solution. We are hoping to either find a new contractor to take over grooming operations or for us, as a club, to purchase the grooming equipment from the contractor and take control ourselves. More to come. With all that’s happening we’re looking forward to getting this season going and hoping to see you all on the hills this winter.
